Chapter Six

Justin

I’m sitting here in the car, holding Liv’s hand, and all I can think about is that kiss and the fact that I admitted to being in love with her. I look over at her and see her face flushed, with a ghost of a smile on her lips, but concern in her eyes. I can’t expect her to trust me immediately, I have so much to fix, and sex isn’t the answer. As much as I want to taste and feel her, I plan to take this slow and earn her trust back. I need to show her I meant every word I said.

“Want to tell me what has been going on with this stalker situation? How long has this been going on?”

I hear her blow out a frustrated breath, but I squeeze her hand with mine letting her know I am here.

“It’s been about eight months or so. A delivery was sent to my office from a floral shop, in the box were dead flowers, as well as a disturbing note.”

“What did the note say?”

“You should never have done it, you are mine.”

“Never done what?”

“I don’t know. Now I find notes on my car windshield, flat tires, this was the first time my car had been spray painted with the words I normally see in a note.”

“What have the cops been able to find out?”

“Nothing,” she says with frustration in her voice. “There is no evidence, never done around any cameras in the area.”

“Were you and Kevin back together at that time?”

“No. I was nursing a broken heart,” she whispers, but I hear her, and it makes my chest hurt that I caused her so much pain.

“That was never my intention. I am so sorry,” I reply just as quietly, squeezing her hand.

“It may not have been, but that’s what happened, and I can’t just forget that.”

“I know, and I will earn your trust back, I promise. We will take things slow, but in the meantime, I want to help figure out who is doing all this to you. How long after you started receiving these messages was it that you and Kevin got back together?”

“About two months later. Why?”

“Did the messages stop?”

“For a couple of weeks, but then out of the blue, they would start back up.”

“Hmmm,” I say, thinking about the timing and the words. Could Kevin have set all this up, then in order to keep her from thinking it was him, he would start it back up?

“You don’t think it’s Kevin doing this, do you?” she asks me nervously.

“I don’t know. Some of the things add up, and then some things don’t. So I’m not sure. What do you think?” I ask her.

“At first, I thought it was him, but when I asked him about it, he told me he would never stoop so low, and said it wasn’t him.”

“Did you believe him?”

“Yeah, I did.”

“Can you think of anyone else who would do this?”

“No, there is no one in my life who I could ever imagine doing something like this.
